Graduation Requirements

To be awarded a diploma from AUP, students must have completed all of the required courses and a minimum of 106 units with a grade of C or above. A student receives 2 units for the successful completion of each semester of an AUP course, and 0.5 units for each semester of a Colburn School course.

 

Our academic year is divided into two semesters.

 

2 PATHWAY CHOICES

Students at AUP are either on the rigorous college preparatory or the conservatory bound performing arts graduation pathways.

 

College Prep Pathway

AUP’s curriculum and graduation requirement for class of 2017 exceed those of the State of California diploma and UC/CSU eligibility. All students on this pathway are required to take the following core courses for a letter grade to graduate:

 

English – 4 years

Math – 3 years (4 years recommended)

Science with Lab – 2 years (3-4yrs recommended)

Social Studies (World History and US History) – 2 years

World Language – 2 years in same language (3-4 years recommended)

Global Studies/Interdisciplinary— 2 years + 1 semester

Computer Science – 1 semester

Digital Media Arts (DMA)- 1 semester

Visual and Performing Arts -1 year (Note: Students who elect visual arts may use 1 semester of DMA requirement as part of the 1 year requirement)

 

The following required courses are graded as pass/fail:

One Academic Leadership and Development course per year enrolled at AUP—4 years max

Physical Education with Integrated Health – 2 years

 

Performing Arts Pathway

In 2015, AUP partnered with Colburn Music Academy, a pre-college program for advanced musicians. AUP then developed a performing arts pathway for high school students. Students are dual enrolled and music conservatory bound. They must complete both AUP’s college prep curriculum and the Colburn Academy curriculum. All students on this pathway are required to take the following core courses for a letter grade to graduate from AUP:

 

English – 4 years

Math – 3 years

Science with Lab – 2 years

Social Studies (World History and US History) – 2 years

World Language – 2 years in same language

Performing Arts -3 years max. (Note: Students are required to take the Music History and Theory courses per year enrolled.)

 

The following required courses are graded as pass/fail:

Academic Leadership and Development course – 1 year

Physical Education with Integrated Health – 2 years
